my jc experience by XY
Curious and excited, we got on the school bus to Nanyang Junior College at dawn. What impressed me first was the beautiful campus. To be frankly, it was more advantageous and beautiful than most of high schools in China. The brilliant facilities provided the students here a brilliant study environment. I even felt a little bit envy of the students here. No wonder a lot of students want to study in Singapore.
After a short stay, we were introduced to our buddies. My buddy’s name was Kwa Yi Hao. He was a prenakan. His mother was from Malaysia and his father was a Singaporean. To my surprise, he could speak a fluent Chinese, which made me feel somehow warm. And then, we chatted about our hobbies and studies. He said that new attendance to JC gave him a lot of pressure. He had to spend most of his spare time doing homework. And he was very starving to enough sleeping. Form his expression, I could tell that it was really hard to adjust to a busy life in JC.
One thing that impressed me is their physical exercise. To be specific, Singaporeans concentrate on the muscle power training more. During every PE lesson, they do running, push-ups, shuttle run, and others. Yi Hao was always saying that he would lose his life after the exercise. Every time he really got exhausted. But he accepted this “X training” from his heart. Because he thought that it was worse to be trained to death in the army. Perhaps a lot of Singapore youths think the same. Otherwise, I have read the Li Guangyao's memoirs in my spare time. I learnt why Singaporeans value the physical exercise. Each Singapore citizens are required to know how to use arms. If the Singapore government were occupied, the Singaporeans would not.
Another thing is their attitude to cheating. Once our tutor distributed the homework and there was only one got A plus. Due to it, the tutor told a story about cheat. When he was at university, a professor showed him two papers. One was written on A, B and C, while the other A, B, C and D. The professor asked him to choose who cheated the test. He chose the latter one, which he thought the cheater added a “D” owing to the cheater feeling guilty. Then the professor asked him which one should get a higher mark. The answer was that the former got seven while the latter eight, because no supply, no demand. That is the Singaporean’s attitude to cheating as well as behaving.
Time passed by, we had a great time in Nanyang JC. I really cherish this memory of JC immersion. A good chunk of years later, I will never forget what I have learnt in Nanyang and those JC friends.

2 weeks in NYJC by CC
The clock ticks away; actually, this is the third day of the JC immersion program. Sitting at my computer desk as usual when most of my acquaintances have fallen asleep, I want to do nothing except wondering nothing although some work that should be done during the two weeks of JC immersion program. The light is dark and tranquil, and let me get start of my journal today.
Last Saturday, when most of the sm2 students could sleep a bit longer, I got up early at eight since the two leaders, Yingliang and I, would have a consultation with our buddies, Qiqi and Jin, and Mr. Teo who was to be in charge of our life in Nanyang Junior College. In a lovely relaxed atmosphere, we discussed the activities and the procedure of the first day, and then, Mr. Teo invited us to McDonald’s for lunch.
On Monday, we had morning assembly. It was just like ours in China where we hoisted the national flag and listened to some announcements. Jin and Yingliang gave a speech in front of the whole college to welcome us. After the assembly, we went to a big classroom called I Space. Later, Principle Mr. Kewk and Vice Principle Ms. Ng briefed us on the two week program. We did not have lessons the first day so it was quite relaxed.
The next day, when my roommate Pengjun woke me up at six twenty, I felt as if I had not fallen asleep the whole night. It was difficult for me to get up so early. On the school bus, I had a nap though it was only a fifteen minute drive. The first class was math which I had not worked on for 9 months, and I found ninety percent of the knowledge learnt in China had already been forgotten.
As the days passed by, having got used to the life in NYJC, everything seems usual to me. Maybe I was in the honeymoon period of “culture shock”, but felt so comfortable having class with my new friends, the memories of my previous life appeared with a sort of warmness.
I do not like the impure relationship when we are ageing as it is mixed by authority, vanity and selfish. Compared with primary and high school, university is more similar to real society, and is difficult to me to live in it. I feel that I am afraid of the end of JC life in which I have made a lot of friends, and where we have class together, lunch together, and hang out together, joyfully. We still have another 4 days, but I cannot stop feeling sad
A French adage, forteresse assiégée means that marriage is like a besieged fortress, where people outside wants to break into and people inside want to escape from it at the same time. Not only marriages, life also has many besieged fortresses, and NYJC is one of them for me, as I want to leave early when at school, but want to continue JC life when it is the time to say good bye. The last morning assembly, we stood at the same place with our buddies as we did on the first day. I gave a farewell speech which was very short, and our JC life was over, just as if it never started. After the assembly, a group of class 0915 got together in the canteen as usual, ate as usual, and then attended different classes as usual, but it was over for me, I know.

NYJC experience by He Zhou
“What an amazing place!” I couldn’t help exclaiming when I saw the Nan Yang Junior College for the first time. Though we all got up before 6 o’clock and felt so sleepy, we suddenly woke up and jumped off the bus upon the arrival. Waiting in the Front Hall, our buddies were quite glad to see us as we were. After brief conversations with each other, we followed our friendly buddies and walked into NYJC and their mysterious JC life. In such a simple way, we started our wonderful JC immersion.
Our TM (Teacher Mentor) held a briefing for us and told us something about this college. NYJC is one of the second-rate schools in Singapore, but it always has good performance in A’ level. It was said that NYJC is especially famous for its popularity of Chinese as the founder was a Chinese-speaking man. As a result, there was no difficulty communicating with our buddies and the students of NYJC because almost everyone here could speak Mandarin fluently. What’s more, we found a lot of Chinese features in this Singapore JC. For example, we were surprised at so many Chinese students here. After a brief introduction during the assembly in front of the whole school, many friendly students approached us and showed their hospitality. So we adapted ourselves to this unfamiliar college within little time because of the warm atmosphere.
My buddy was CHUA MINGSONG with an English name: Jasper. Although he was a JC1 student, he worked very hard and lived a tough JC life. He told me that he had to get up before 5:30 every morning to catch the bus to school and he seldom went to bed before 12 o’clock. These reminded me of my senior life in china. He majored in science and did well in academic performance. He led me to his class and had lunch with me every day. I was a little amazed at his busy curriculum. I thought it was an arduous thing to take so many classes every week. However, comparing their JC classes with the classes we will take in NUS, we will absolutely suffer more. As I had already taken all the lessons in China, most of JC1 lessons were easy for me. Sometimes, I felt a little boring because of learning the old knowledge that I had mastered. On the contrary, their PE class impressed me deeply. In China, PE was always a good time for relaxing and gaming. Things totally changed here. All the students must run 3 kilometers! In fact, I had not run such a long way for a very long time. When I finished the running, I felt if I was dead. Nevertheless, this “impossible mission” was a piece of cake for most JC students.
As the whole Singapore is a culturally diverse country, the NYJC is no exception. You can see people from different countries. Sometimes, they are dressed in clothes that define their nationality. Luckily, we had a culture sharing with Malay, Indian and Peranakan students in NYJC. We introduced each other’s country in different ways. Indian students wore their traditional costumes; Malay students brought their traditional instruments and toys; hospital Peranakan students prepared delicious food for us. We Chinese students also prepared a lot for this sharing and had good performance. I introduced Chinese art to them and I saw many amazing expressions in their faces during the introduction, in another word, they were interested in it very much. Although students came from different countries with different cultures, they lived harmoniously in NYJC.
Two weeks were too short to enjoy the JC life. I appreciated that NYJC had gave me the chance to get close to local students and know more about Singapore education. Also, I learnt a lot about Singapore culture and people. For foreign students, such a program will definitely benefit a lot and help us adapt to the new environment. In a word, I enjoyed the NYJC and my JC immersion a lot.

NYJC。walk back。tomorrow is another day。
。really silly。 game,game , silly but happy。 then 我走回parry hall。
Always feel fresh BY:JY
Today is the third day we've spend in NYJC. Compared with the first day we got here, I, myself , consider the things here are all become much more familiar with me. Not only the tranquil library, but also the lively canteen.
Besides these, each place my buddy Denis took me to can always makes me feel quite fresh, like the LT rooms or the study room where we have the sharing with those Malay and India friends.
Every minute I stayed in the campus can always gives me surprise. i just want to share two of them with you this time.
The first one is when I was enjoying the traditional food that served by those foreign friends, a girl just came to me and said she came from Xi'an which is my home town. What's more, she came here when she was quite young, but she once was in the same school with me. Oh, me dear god, you are so kind to let the girl who comes from the same place with me to meet me here. Thanks a lot to let me feel the warm of my hometown from thousands miles away.
The second thing is alao quite amazing. Wangzheng is the person
I will talk about . He is in the same class with when we had the English course in NUS, I just once heard he knew how to play the piano, but today when I really saw him sitting here playing the piano without noticing me coming near I was quite moved. because his appearce is just quite like a sportboy, but at that moment he was a performer. We also took some pictures and made fun of his two totally different aspects.
Besides these, each place my buddy Denis took me to can always makes me feel quite fresh, like the LT rooms or the study room where we have the sharing with those Malay and India friends.

3rd day by CC
Firstly, the Introduction of my name: why CC, not CS or others.
When in senior 2, I often played DotA with my classmates in which I need a nickname. As Counter-Strike, the game, was abbreviated to CS, I changed the 2nd letter to C and made it CC. My gamemates liked to call me CC and soon the whole class began to call me CC, then it turn out to be my code name. Actually, CC was pronounced as "saysay" or "er say" due to Tianjin's accent.
Lets move back to the 3rd day.
I have got used to the life here. Everything seems to be daily life. My memories of previous life reccurred with a sort of warm feeling.

SPOTTED!!
On Wednesday afternoon, right afer class, there's a culture sharing among Chinese, Indian and Malaysian students.
The boy in costume is showing us INDIAN culture vividly~
So excited to find a piano in a teaching building
and... cannot help enjoying his own music ~!
and... cannot help enjoying his own music ~!
JC girl students are beyond my imagination~
It's so wonderful to find out that they can even run 2400m without stop!!
As for me, I tried to run 4 rounds to avoid being scolded by the PE teacher, haha..
Things we learned today are just similar to what we've learned in POLITICS in our Senior 1.
Look carefully!~ The woman in dark clothes is a famous African American poet.
She taught us English literature.
She is dancing and singing while reading poems for us~ HOW FANTASTIC!

This is our first day in Nanyang Junior College.
Everything went well, especially the weather.
A tranquil place filled with sunshine, trees and flowers --
That's my impression of NYJC at the very beginning.
We formed into 4 groups to chat and play games with buddies.
Since we are all outgoing, it's easy for us to get to make friends with each other.
The lady introduced this college to us.
She smiled a lot and looked quite easygoing.
In her words, we gradually got to know more about this junior college.
